Treat yourself to relaxing break in historical Malta

Known for its long promenade and British feel, Sliema is fashionable with plenty of amenities and good views. Fantastic sightseeing is on offer here, including the capital Valletta only 3 miles away. Sliema has many bars and restaurants offering local specialities, nightlife is relaxed.

Malta is packed with structures predating the pyramids and legacies of the Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans and Knights of St John. You see English cars, vans and buses dating back to the 1950s, fish and chip shops, pubs with British names. Yet Malta is wholly Mediterranean, with a superb climate, clear blue sea, pretty fishing villages, sleepy towns and lively resorts. It is said that there is a church for every day of the year, and the colourful 'festas' are not far behind in number. The fortifications around Valletta's Grand Harbour are imposing, the prehistoric remains at Tarxien, Ghar Dalam and the Hypogeum amazing, and the Palace of the Grand Masters and St John's Co-Cathedral splendidly ornate. Visit Rabat and marvellously preserved Mdina, the ‘Silent City’, the Blue Grotto or Mosta with its huge church dome. You'll find a sophisticated café lifestyle, nightlife, good restaurants, excellent hotels and very friendly people.
